Allen’s Donovan Parham pumped in the winning bucket with a little more than a second to go in overtime as the Allen Eagles won the Class 6A State Boys Basketball Championship, 49-47, over Katy Tompkins in the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday night.

Allen (34-5) trailed by three points going into the fourth quarter, rallied and finished the fourth period tied, 44-44.

Allen’s Jaylon Scott sank one of two free-throw attempts with just over three minutes left in overtime for a 45-44 Eagles’ lead.

Allen fell behind by two points in overtime on a 3-pointer by Eden Holt.

The Eagles came back on two free throws by state final MVP Jaylen Walker to tie the score at 47-47. Walker led the Eagles with 18 points, with four 3-pointers.

Then came a missed shot by Tompkins. Parham scored on his layup to give Allen a 49-47 margin with 1.1 seconds to go. Tompkins (32-9) had one more shot but missed. … as Allen captured the high school’s first boys State Basketball Championship.

State 6A final highlights: The score was tied five times Saturday night, and the lead changed hands 13 times in the state final.

Isaiah Stevens led Allen with seven points at halftime. Stevens had 11 points by the end of the third quarter with Tompkins ahead, 35-32.

Walker’s bucket cut the lead to 35-34 with about six minutes left in the fourth quarter as Allen kept fighting back.

With 3:30 left in the fourth quarter, Walker pumped in a 3-pointer then Tompkins scored again for a one-point lead at 40-39.

Scott put the Eagles up, 44-43, on a layup in the fourth quarter. Tompkins tied the score, 44-44, on a free throw by C.J. Washington.

Allen trailed, 14-9, at the end of the first quarter.

Notable: Duncanville’s 1998-1999 team was the last before 6A Allen to win state in basketball and football in the largest school class. Congrats on Allen winning state in wrestling, football and basketball in 2017-2018.
