Girls 6A State Championship: Plano 62, Converse Judson 58; LoLo Davenport named state tournament MVP

San Antonio, Texas – Plano’s LoLo Davenport earned the Class 6A State Tournament MVP award on Saturday night as the Wildcats beat Converse Judson, 62-58, to capture the high school’s first Girls State Basketball Championship in the Alamodome.

Davenport scored 14 points and one steal against the Rockets. Seven of Davenport’s nine rebounds came on offense. She sank five key free throws and made a 3-pointer.

Plano’s players off the bench scored 23 points to zero for Judson’s reserves.

Forward Jordyn Merritt led Plano on scoring with 15 points, one blocked shot, an assist and four steals. Merritt made both of her 3-pointer attempts.

A key play with 63 seconds left in the fourth quarter saw Davenport make the first free throw. The second missed by Merritt rebounded the ball and scored.

Forwards Katie Ferrell (6 points) and Emma Halverson (4 points) accounted for 10 points, 12 rebounds, three blocked shots, five assists and two steals. Seven of Ferrell’s nine rebounds came on defense.

Mikayla Eddins scored seven points for Plano and made a 3-pointer, an assist and a steal.

Maggie Robbins had four rebounds, a steal, an assist and two points.

Guards Zaria Collins (10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals) and Sophie Fleites (four points, one 3-pointer, one steal and one assist) kept the pressure on Judson.

The Rockets were led by guard Corina Carter’s 22 points. She made 10 of 12 free-throw attempts before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.

Judson held a 12-point lead with 3:04 remaining in the third quarter.

The Wildcats outscored the Rockets, 21-10, in the fourth quarter.

For the game, the score was tied four times, and the lead changed eight times.

Judson led for 17 minutes, 33 seconds.

The Plano Wildcats held the advantage for only 13 minutes.
