Plano girls win Regional Semifinal over Frenship, 64-49

Fort Worth, Texas: The Plano Wildcats, led by 24 points from sophomore Jordyn Merritt, won the Class 6A Region Semifinal with a 64-49, win over Frenship at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center on Friday night.

Plano, which employed man-to-man coverage to stop Frenship, takes on top-ranked Duncanville in the girls basketball Region Final at 1 p.m. Saturday in Fort Worth. Duncanville beat No. 9 Arlington Bowie, 65-44, to advance.

Plano senior Katie Ferrell blocked three shots against Frenship.

Wildcats junior Zaria Collins had 11 points for Plano, and freshman Mikayla Eddins posted 10 points.

Plano senior LoLo Davenport sparked the Wildcats with nine points and some big defensive plays in the second half.

Plano’s Ferrell finished with five points, three key assists and five boards. Merritt had seven rebounds, and Collins had five boards.

Maggie Robbins scored five points for the Wildcats.

On Friday, Plano led, 28-25, at halftime, and 47-33 after three quarters.

Plano beat Cedar Hill, 53-43, on Tuesday in the regional quarterfinals at Mesquite Poteet.

Before that the Wildcats won the Area Round, 62-61, in double overtime over DeSoto at Richardson High School.

District champion Plano won Bi-District over Hurst L.D. Bell, 71-64, at Coppell.
