McKinney’s fifth-annual Bike the Bricks criterium race gets into high gear and races through town on Friday, May 23.

Race fans can catch lunch at the Bike the Bricks kickoff event as The Ticket’s BaD Radio team broadcasts live from noon to 3 p.m. from the Mellow Mushroom, 218 E. Louisiana St.

Warm-up laps begin at 2:30 p.m. and the races kick off at 3 p.m. Admission to the event is free. For additional information, contact McKinney Main Street at 972-547-2660 or go to downtownmckinney.com.

ROAD CLOSINGS

 Event set-up for Bike the Bricks will begin at 10 p.m. Thursday, May 22. Church St. from Virginia St. to Louisiana St., the parking lot directly east of Mitchell Park, along with the spaces along the race route will be blocked all day Friday, May 23.

• Please do not park in the streets within the race route.
• Through traffic will be accessible until 11 a.m. Friday, May 23. After 11 a.m., through traffic will be redirected to outer lots in downtown.
• If cars are parked within the event perimeter on Friday, May 23 after 1 p.m., they will be towed to an outer lot nearby.
• Parking bollards will begin being dropped in Historic Downtown at 1:30 p.m. on May 23.
• Traffic on Louisiana St. coming into downtown will be rerouted to turn right on College St. beginning at 1:30 p.m.
