Football fans in Collin County remember the Lake Highlands football teams coached by Mike Zoffuto. He achieved national fame when he said, “God bless those kids,” on air during a Plano East-John Tyler football broadcast during a playoff game. Zoffuto, who coached four area high school football teams and led Lake Highlands to a state quarterfinals, died Sunday in Amarillo, Texas. He was 65.
