Plano Wildcats top No. 1 Duncanville, 60-48, in Regional Basketball Final at Fort Worth

The Plano Wildcats have just knocked off the top-ranked girls basketball team in the state, defeating Duncanville, 60-48, in the Class 6A Region Final at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center in Fort Worth on Saturday afternoon.

The Plano Wildcats (33-6) coached by Rodney Belcher, will be returning to the State Girls Basketball tournament, playing Cypress Creek (34-4) at 7 p.m. next Friday in San Antonio’s Alamodome.

The score on Saturday against Duncanville was tied at 26 points at halftime, before Plano pulled ahead to enter the fourth quarter leading, 42-34.

LoLo Davenport led Plano with 19 points, including nine in the second half.

Jordyn Merritt scored 12, and Zaria Collins added 10 points. Merritt’s defense boosted Plano with five steals.

Plano picked up eight points from Sophie Fleites, six points from Emma Halverson, four from Maggie Robbins and three points from Katie Ferrell, who made five key assists and pulled down seven rebounds.

The Plano Girls also made state in 2000.

In Region III, Temple beat Crosby, 60-40, on Saturday.
