A tragic story out of Maryland has unfolded, involving a mother accused of murdering her 3-year-old daughter after initially reporting her as being kidnapped. Darrian Randle, 31, has been charged with the murder of her young daughter, Nola Dinkins.
The horrific events began when Randle falsely claimed that Nola had been abducted by a white couple in a van. However, as the investigation progressed, it was revealed that Randle had beaten her daughter to death.
The Investigation Unfolds
On the day Randle reported the alleged kidnapping, police in Delaware began their search. But when authorities learned that Randle and her daughter lived in Cecil County, Maryland, the investigation shifted. At their home in North East, Maryland, Randle’s boyfriend, Cedrick Antoine Britten, was questioned.
Initially, Britten claimed that Randle had left the apartment with Nola, but video footage showed Randle leaving alone, without her daughter.
The investigation led to further unsettling discoveries. Police noted that the apartment smelled strongly of bleach and cleaning products. Additionally, a child’s blanket with a possible blood stain was found in Britten’s car, although he claimed the blanket belonged to someone else.
The Confession
As Delaware police continued questioning Randle, her story began to fall apart. Eventually, Randle admitted to physically striking Nola multiple times with a belt. She confessed to hitting her daughter 15-20 times during the day on Monday, and later, when Nola became unresponsive, Randle realized her daughter was dead. She claimed she tried to revive Nola with CPR, but it was too late.
Following the child’s death, Randle and Britten allegedly placed Nola’s body in a suitcase, which they stored in a basement overnight. The following day, Britten drove the suitcase to a park in Perryville, where he left it. The police later discovered the suitcase, containing the child’s remains wrapped in Saran Wrap, in the park.
The remains were consistent with those of a young child, though official identification and cause of death have yet to be confirmed by the medical examiner.
Charges and Legal Consequences
Randle has now been charged with serious crimes in two states. In Delaware, she faces charges of false reporting, while in Maryland, she is charged with first-degree and second-degree murder, as well as child abuse leading to the death of her daughter. She is currently held in Delaware with a bond set at $1 million, awaiting extradition to Maryland.
Britten, who has been charged as an accessory to murder, was released on a $75,000 bond and is under home detention. He reportedly cooperated with police, drawing a map that led them to the suitcase containing Nola’s remains.
