Alaska, known as the “Great Land,” is not only famous for its glaciers, active ice fields, and stunning views of the Aurora Borealis, but it also has a long-standing financial program that helps residents.
In September 2025, the state will be sending out stimulus checks worth $1,702. If you live in Alaska, here’s what you need to know to find out if you qualify for the payment.
Why Are States Sending Stimulus Checks?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. government distributed Economic Impact Payments to help citizens cope with financial hardships. As the pandemic ended, many Americans still struggled with rising inflation and living costs.
In response, several states, including Alaska, began offering stimulus checks or rebates to continue providing financial assistance.
Alaska’s Permanent Fund Dividend Program
Alaska’s Permanent Fund program, established in 1976, uses the state’s oil revenue to provide financial support to its residents. The fund is managed by the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation (APFC), which invests in stocks, bonds, and real estate.
This year, Alaskans will receive a stimulus check, or the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD), worth $1,702. This payment is made up of a base amount and an additional energy bonus.
Who Will Qualify for the $1,702 Payment?
To be eligible for the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend, residents must meet the following requirements:
Be a resident of Alaska for the entire year of 2024, with plans to stay permanently.
Have not claimed residency in another state or country since December 31, 2023.
Have no felony convictions in 2024, nor multiple misdemeanor convictions during the year.
Have not left Alaska for more than 180 days in 2024, except for justified reasons such as studies, health, or military service. Additionally, you must have spent at least 72 consecutive hours in Alaska in 2023 or 2024.
Your claim must be marked as ‘Eligible-Unpaid’ in the system.
When Will the Payments Be Sent?
The Alaska Permanent Fund will send out payments according to the claim status. For those with an ‘Eligible-Unpaid’ status as of September 3, 2025, payments will be sent on September 11, 2025. Additional payment dates include:
September 18, 2025: Claims in ‘Eligible-Unpaid’ status will be paid on October 2, 2025.
October 13, 2025: Claims in ‘Eligible-Unpaid’ status will be paid on October 23, 2025.
How to Ensure You Receive Your Payment
To avoid delays, the Alaska Department of Revenue recommends checking your claim status and updating your personal information, including your address, on the program’s official website by August 31, 2025.
Other State Programs to Watch
