A Louisiana teenager has been indicted for allegedly stabbing his mother, a respected local teacher, to death while she was sleeping.

The Indictment

Connor Lyons, 19, was formally indicted by a Caddo Parish grand jury on Wednesday. He faces charges of:

Second-degree murder in the killing of his mother, Lara Lyons, 55

Battery of a police officer

Resisting an officer

He remains in custody at the Caddo Correctional Center on a $2 million bond.

The 911 Call

The case began with a disturbing 911 call on May 23, when one of Connor’s siblings told emergency dispatchers:
“My brother killed my mother.”

Deputies from the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office rushed to the family home on Double A Drive in Shreveport. They found Connor sitting on the back steps of the house.

Inside, they discovered Lara Lyons dead in her bed.

Confession and Motive

According to investigators, Connor later confessed to stabbing his mother three times in the side of her neck while she slept. He allegedly told police he had been hearing voices before the attack.

Remembering Lara Lyons

Just days after her death, the DeSoto Parish School District described Lara as a dedicated and beloved teacher at Mansfield High School.

“Ms. Lyons was a dedicated educator, a compassionate colleague, and a cherished member of the DeSoto Parish Schools family,” the district said in a statement. “Her passion for teaching touched countless lives, and her absence will be deeply felt.”

Community Shock

The tragedy has left both her school and the wider community devastated. Shreveport, where the killing took place, lies in northwestern Louisiana, about 200 miles east of Dallas, Texas.

The indictment of Connor Lyons adds another chapter to a heartbreaking case that stunned Shreveport and the DeSoto Parish school community. As the legal process moves forward, students, colleagues, and neighbors continue to grieve the loss of a teacher remembered for her kindness and commitment.
