A 29-year-old man from Georgia will spend the rest of his life in prison for the brutal murder of his girlfriend and her teenage son. The crime shocked the community, especially because the couple’s 8-year-old son was left alone in the home for two days with the bodies.

What Happened?

The killer, William Jerome Adams, was found guilty of shooting and killing Mary Lindsay, 39, and her 15-year-old son Atif Muhammad Jr. in March 2021 at their home in Flowery Branch, Georgia.

The horrifying discovery was made on March 26, 2021, when Lindsay’s oldest daughter went to check on her mother after not hearing from her for a few days. She entered the home through a window and found her 8-year-old brother sleeping in their mother’s bedroom. Then she found the dead bodies locked inside another room.

Crime Details and Investigation

According to police, Adams shot both victims inside Lindsay’s bedroom two days before they were found. The 8-year-old child, unaware of what had happened, had been staying in the house alone for two days.

Investigators found three 9mm shell casings at the crime scene. These matched the bullets found nearby. Further investigation led to Adams being tracked down in Laredo, Texas, where he was caught by federal authorities while trying to cross the border into Mexico using a fake name and without a passport.

He also stole $2,000 from Lindsay’s bank account after the murders.

Evidence That Helped Convict Adams

Key evidence came from Atif’s twin sister, who testified that she had found a 9mm handgun about 10 days before the murder and took a photo of it. Her mother had confirmed to her that the gun belonged to Adams.

Prosecutors also presented proof that Adams was abusive and controlling toward Lindsay. One photo shown during the trial showed an injury on Lindsay’s arm, which she had suffered due to Adams’ violence.

Court Verdict and Sentence

After the trial, the jury found Adams guilty on two counts each of murder and aggravated assault. The judge sentenced him to life in prison without the chance of parole.

District Attorney Patsy Austin-Gatson said, “The verdict and sentence are fitting for a defendant who violently took the life of a mother and son and stole from them. We mourn with the victims’ family and hope this verdict brings them some justice.”

This case is a heartbreaking reminder of how domestic violence can lead to tragic and deadly outcomes. Thanks to the strong work of investigators and the courage of the victim’s daughter, justice was served. While nothing can bring back the lives lost, the sentence ensures that William Adams will never harm anyone again.
