A Tennessee Wingstop employee is facing serious charges after allegedly throwing hot cooking oil onto two customers during an argument. The incident, which took place on July 22 at a Wingstop in Memphis, has led to significant injuries for the victims and an aggravated assault charge against the employee, Johnisa Herring.
Details of the Incident
The situation began when two women entered the Wingstop location on Winchester Road to pick up an order. While they were inside, they became involved in a heated argument with Herring, a 25-year-old employee.
According to the complaint affidavit, as the argument escalated, Herring walked to the kitchen, grabbed a bowl, and filled it with hot cooking oil. She then walked back toward the customers and threw the bowl of oil at them.
The attack resulted in severe burns for one of the women, who was hit in the face and upper torso. She required hospitalization due to second-degree burns covering 18.5% of her body.
The other woman also sustained burns to her right shoulder. The more seriously injured woman later identified Herring as the person responsible for the attack, but the reason for the argument between the women is not yet clear.
Legal Consequences
Following the incident, Herring was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. She was placed in the Shelby County Jail on a $7,500 bond. However, as of Saturday, she was no longer listed on the jail’s inmate roster, suggesting that she had been released. Herring is scheduled to appear in court on August 25.
