A man accused of fatally shooting a contractor in South Houston made his first appearance in court recently. Omar Marzouk, the accused, faced a judge two days after he allegedly shot and killed 32-year-old Jimmy Arevalo.
Details of the Incident
The incident took place on Wednesday morning near Highway 288 close to MacGregor, at a restaurant on Calumet Street.
Surveillance footage showed Marzouk approaching Arevalo, who was busy pressure washing restaurant equipment. The two reportedly got into an argument before Marzouk opened fire and fled the scene in a gray Toyota Tundra.
According to court documents, Marzouk was upset about the noise made by the pressure washer, which led to the violent outburst.
After the Shooting
Following the shooting, Marzouk attempted to sell several items, including cars and tools. Authorities arrested him on Thursday afternoon. He has now been formally charged with murder.
Reaction from the Family
ABC13 spoke with Arevalo’s brother, who was at the restaurant during the tragic event and discovered his brother’s lifeless body. He described Marzouk as a “monster with no regard for human life.”
Legal Process
Marzouk is expected to appear in court again on Friday. His bond has been set at $500,000.
