For millions of Americans, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) payments provide essential financial stability, especially when the economy is uncertain. In July 2025, a new round of SSDI payments is set to be issued, and it all hinges on an important date: Wednesday, July 23.
However, not every SSDI recipient will receive their payment on that day. If you’re wondering when you’ll get your payment, here’s what you need to know.
What is SSDI and Who Qualifies for It?
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is a federal program that provides financial assistance to individuals who are unable to work due to a medical disability.
To qualify for SSDI, you must have worked long enough and contributed to the Social Security system through taxes. SSDI is different from SSI (Supplemental Security Income), which is based on financial need rather than work history.
Social Security Payment Schedule: How It Works
The Social Security Administration (SSA) follows a fixed schedule for SSDI payments, based on the recipient’s birth date. Here’s how the payments are generally distributed:
If you were born between the 1st and 10th of the month, your payment is made on the second Wednesday of each month.
If you were born between the 11th and 20th, your payment is made on the third Wednesday of each month.
If you were born between the 21st and 31st, your payment is made on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
In 2025, the fourth Wednesday of July falls on the 23rd, so SSDI recipients born between the 21st and 31st will receive their payment on that date.
SSDI and July 23 Payment
If your birthday falls between the 21st and 31st of any month, your SSDI payment will arrive on July 23, 2025. If you started receiving benefits before May 1997, your payment might arrive earlier on July 1, regardless of your birthday, even if you also receive SSI benefits.
To stay on top of your payments, it’s a good idea to log into your mySocialSecurity account. This official portal allows you to check your payment dates, deposit history, and more. It’s a free and handy tool to keep your finances in order.
What to Do if You Don’t Receive Your Payment
If your payment is delayed, here are the steps to follow:
- Check your bank account or card to see if the payment was deposited without any prior notice.
- Log into your mySocialSecurity account to confirm your scheduled payment date.
- Wait at least three business days. Sometimes, payments are delayed due to banking or technical issues.
- Contact the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (Spanish line available) if more than five business days have passed without receiving your payment.
Keep Your Information Updated
To avoid delays, make sure your contact details and bank account information are always up to date with the SSA. If you change your address or bank, notify them immediately.
Enabling bank notifications will alert you the moment your payment arrives. Also, be cautious about fraud—remember, the SSA will never call or text asking for your Social Security number or banking information.
