On Wednesday morning, a suspect in a vehicle chase was shot and killed by law enforcement officers after he opened fire during a pursuit along the Gulf Freeway, authorities reported.

The Incident Unfolds

The situation began when a deputy from the Harris County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office spotted a stolen truck near Hobby Airport. Upon trying to stop the truck, the driver sped off, initiating a chase that would stretch more than 30 minutes.

The suspect, who authorities have identified as a Hispanic male, continued heading toward Galveston while more law enforcement agencies joined the pursuit.

Shots Fired During the Chase

During the chase, the suspect attempted to evade the officers by firing his weapon. According to Galveston Police Chief Doug Balli, a deputy from the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable’s Office tried to stop the vehicle using spike strips.

However, the suspect fired at the deputy, prompting the officer to return fire as the chase moved into Galveston County.

The Chase Ends

The chase eventually came to a halt on Broadway near 54th Street on Galveston Island, where the main road was shut down for several hours. Authorities stated that the suspect, after exiting the truck on the passenger side, was shot and killed by law enforcement officers.

Investigation and Details

The truck involved in the chase was a 2003 white Ford, which had been stolen from a tire shop in Angleton, located 45 miles away, the previous day. Sources confirmed that the suspect was on the phone during the pursuit.

Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity, and the Texas Rangers are investigating the police-involved shooting.

No officers were injured during the incident, though both the patrol vehicles and the suspect’s truck showed visible signs of gunfire damage.

Ongoing Investigation

This incident is still under investigation, and details remain limited as authorities work to piece together the events that led to the suspect’s death.
