In the wake of devastating flash floods that hit Texas last week, Ford Motor Co. is stepping up to support the state’s communities. With over 173 people still missing and the death toll reaching 119 as of July 10, Ford is contributing both financial support and physical aid to help with recovery efforts.
Through donations, volunteer programs, and various forms of assistance, Ford is joining forces with local charities and organizations to provide crucial support during this crisis.
Ford’s Financial and Volunteer Contributions
Ford has pledged $1.25 million to local charities, including the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, to assist in the search, recovery, and rebuilding efforts.
This donation is part of Ford’s “Building Together” program, which was introduced to bring together Ford employees, dealers, and nonprofit partners to respond to crises like this one.
In addition to financial support, Ford employees and dealers will be providing hands-on help by setting up shelters, reunification centers, and distributing emergency food boxes.
Ford’s chief dealer engagement officer, Elena Ford, expressed her sadness over the disaster, stating that the company’s thoughts are with the affected families.
Immediate Assistance for Affected Areas
Ford’s support goes beyond donations. The company’s Texas dealers are providing loaner vehicles to the American Red Cross to help it expand its relief efforts.
Ford is also mobilizing its Volunteer Corps, who will team up with Team Rubicon, a veteran-led humanitarian organization, to provide disaster relief. As part of its Extended Volunteer Paid Time Off Policy, Ford is allowing its employees to take time off to assist in these recovery efforts.
Ford Credit is also offering relief to its customers affected by the floods. Customers in FEMA-designated areas can receive up to 60 days of payment extensions, easing the financial burden on those impacted by the storms.
Toyota’s Contribution to Flood Relief
Ford’s efforts come alongside similar actions by Toyota, which also stepped up to provide relief to Texans. Toyota and its partners have donated over $600,000 to flood victims in Texas, including contributions to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country’s Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. In addition to monetary donations, Toyota is offering payment relief options to affected customers.
General Motors and Other Companies Pitch In
General Motors (GM) has also joined the recovery efforts, providing pickups and SUVs to the American Red Cross to help with disaster relief. GM has also activated OnStar’s Full Crisis Mode service in Texas, offering free crisis assist services to anyone in an OnStar-equipped vehicle affected by the floods.
As of now, Stellantis has not provided any comments about their involvement in the flood relief efforts.
