A Collin County judge has scheduled a trial for Karmelo Anthony, the 18-year-old accused of fatally stabbing another teenager during a confrontation at a Frisco ISD track meet in April. The trial will take place on June 1, 2026.
Background of the Incident
Anthony was indicted for murder by a Collin County grand jury in June. The stabbing occurred on April 2 at Kuykendall Stadium during a track meet. Anthony, who was 17 at the time of the incident, is accused of killing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a verbal altercation. Following the altercation, Metcalf allegedly pushed Anthony, who then stabbed him in the chest.
Anthony was arrested at the scene and later released on house arrest after posting bond on April 14. He faces a first-degree murder charge, and if convicted, could face a sentence ranging from 5 to 99 years or even life in prison, as 17-year-olds are considered adults in the Texas criminal justice system.

According to witness statements, the verbal dispute between Anthony and Metcalf escalated when Metcalf pushed Anthony. Anthony, in a statement to officers, admitted to stabbing Metcalf and said, “I’m not alleged, I did it.”

In June, Frisco ISD released video footage from the track meet, showing the moments leading up to the stabbing. The footage, captured by a camera near the press box, shows a sudden movement under a tent where the altercation took place.

The footage shows paramedics arriving minutes after the stabbing, attempting to assist Metcalf, who was later taken away by ambulance. Authorities later confirmed that the knife used in the stabbing was found near the scene.

After the indictment, both families expressed their thoughts. Anthony’s attorney, Mike Howard, voiced confidence in the justice system, stating that Karmelo “looks forward to his day in court.”
Meanwhile, Austin Metcalf’s father, Jeff Metcalf, spoke about his grief and the justice he hopes will come for his son. “It will never bring my son back,” he said.
