The Discovery of the Baby
On May 18, 2009, the body of a newborn girl was discovered in a dumpster behind an apartment complex in Union City, California. The baby was found by a man looking for recyclables, and it was immediately clear that she had not lived long after birth.
The baby girl, who was still attached to her umbilical cord and wrapped in bloody pantyhose, was named Matea by the police. Her tragic discovery led to an investigation, but the case went cold after no clear leads emerged.
DNA Evidence and the Breakthrough
Years passed with little progress in the case, but in May 2025, a breakthrough came when DNA evidence linked Angela Onduto to the deceased baby. The woman had been a person of interest in the investigation years ago, but no arrests were made.

The Arrest of Angela Onduto

According to reports, Onduto has confessed to the murder of her newborn daughter. In a statement obtained by police, she described how she intentionally killed Matea shortly after birth. She admitted to giving birth at home in 2009 and discarding the baby in the dumpster, showing no remorse for her actions.
Onduto claimed she never intended to keep the child and was clear that she had planned to abandon the baby from the start. There were no signs of drug use or psychiatric conditions at the time of the incident.
