On June 24, 2025, Jessica McLaughlin, a 7-Eleven employee, arrived at work expecting to carry out her usual tasks. Instead, she was violently attacked by one of her managers at the 7-Eleven store on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, near the Paramount Pictures studios.
According to her brother, Sean McLaughlin, the attack began when her manager threw a bottle at her and then pinned her to the ground, depriving her of oxygen.
Despite attempts by coworkers to intervene and stop the attack, they too were reportedly attacked. McLaughlin’s brother described the terrifying moment when Jessica finally managed to break free but collapsed, unable to breathe. Her coworkers immediately began performing CPR on her until first responders arrived at the scene.
Jessica’s Family’s Heartbreaking Decision
After the attack, McLaughlin was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed that she was unconscious and not breathing. Hospital staff placed her on life support, but after several days, it was determined that there was no brain activity.
In a heartbreaking post on GoFundMe, her brother Sean McLaughlin revealed that the family was preparing to take her off life support.
“Doctors and detectives later confirmed what we already knew in our hearts — Jessica didn’t do anything wrong. She was the victim, and this attack should have never happened,” Sean McLaughlin wrote in his emotional tribute to his sister.

When the Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene, they found McLaughlin unconscious, with her manager already fleeing the store. The suspect allegedly attempted to delete security footage from the store’s surveillance system before escaping on a bike.
