A 22-year-old woman from Texas has been arrested after a drunk driving crash resulted in the deaths of three people, including a Good Samaritan who had stopped to help those involved in a prior accident.
Kearra Thomas has been charged with manslaughter in connection with one of the deaths, and her bond has been set at $300,000.
The Tragic Crash
On the morning of June 29, 2025, at approximately 2:24 a.m., police and emergency medical personnel responded to a major vehicle collision on North Interstate 35 in Round Rock, Texas.
Upon arrival, authorities found a blue Ford, driven by Thomas, had collided with a silver Honda that was overturned and on its roof. Three people were confirmed dead at the scene, including Agustin Guillen, 38, Quinn Stegall, 21, and Maximo Ramirez, 49.
The silver Honda had already overturned in a prior crash, and Ramirez had stopped his vehicle to assist those involved in the initial accident. Tragically, Ramirez was also killed when Thomas’ car collided with the overturned Honda.
The Investigation and Thomas’ Account
When police made contact with Thomas, they noticed the smell of alcohol on her breath and observed her and her boyfriend in a “sedated” state.
Thomas allegedly told officers that she was driving northbound when the car ahead of her stopped abruptly, causing her to swerve into the left lane. Upon seeing the overturned Honda, she collided with it head-on.
Thomas stated that she had been driving back to Temple after visiting a restaurant but could not recall the name or location of the restaurant. She admitted to consuming alcohol before driving, revealing that she had drunk a cocktail called “Big Sipz,” a canned cocktail with 16% alcohol by volume.
Thomas mentioned having only one drink around midnight but also confirmed she had smoked marijuana earlier that evening.
Thomas’ responses during the interview raised concerns about her state of mind. When asked how she felt about the situation, she smiled and said, “I don’t know. I’ve seen things I’ve never seen before… I’m just thankful to be alive.”
Blood Alcohol Content and Arrest
Following a field sobriety test, Thomas was subjected to a breathalyzer test, which showed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .103, well above the legal limit of .08 in Texas. As a result, she was arrested and taken to the Williamson County Jail.
Authorities have not yet provided details about the initial crash that led to the overturned Honda, but they confirmed that the crash involving Thomas was caused by her intoxication. Thomas is currently being held on a $300,000 bond and is scheduled for a court appearance on August 20, 2025.
Remembering Maximo Ramirez
Maximo Ramirez, 49, was the victim who stopped to assist those involved in the overturned vehicle before being tragically killed. His sister, Mari Ramirez, described him as a kind-hearted man with a passion for helping others.
“My brother was very simple and had a kind heart,” Mari Ramirez told CBS affiliate KEYE. “He was a medical assistant, hence the reason he got out of his car to help someone else. He was always doing good. He would give the shirt off his back to help someone else.”
The crash that resulted in the deaths of three people, including a selfless Good Samaritan, has left the community grieving. Kearra Thomas’ actions, fueled by alcohol and marijuana, caused a senseless tragedy that robbed the world of innocent lives.
While the investigation continues, the loss of Maximo Ramirez, Agustin Guillen, and Quinn Stegall is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers of impaired driving and the importance of being cautious behind the wheel.
