An Ohio man, Michael Mayor, has changed his plea to guilty after initially pleading not guilty by reason of insanity for the tragic death of a 1-year-old girl. Mayor, 34, admitted to slamming the child’s head on the floor, leading to her fatal injuries.

The Incident

On December 5, 2024, Mayor was left alone with the 1-year-old girl while his wife, who worked as a babysitter, took the other children to school. When his wife returned, she assumed the baby was asleep, but she soon realized something was wrong when the child never woke up from her nap.

Mayor later confessed to slamming the child on the floor in frustration because she wouldn’t stop crying.

Details of the Abuse

According to police reports, the child suffered severe injuries, including a skull fracture, a subdural hematoma, and other life-threatening wounds. Doctors described the injuries as the result of a “massive impact.”

Mayor told police that he shook the baby to quiet her and, when that didn’t work, he slammed her on the floor multiple times. Afterward, he believed she had fallen asleep and left her alone in the room.

Charges and Arrest

Initially, Mayor was charged with felonious assault and three counts of child endangerment, with a $1 million bond. However, after the child passed away on December 20, 2024, the charges were upgraded to three counts of murder.

On February 5, 2025, Mayor entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. Yet, on June 26, 2025, as his trial neared, Mayor changed his plea to guilty to one count of murder. As part of a plea deal, all other charges were dropped.

Legal Proceedings

On March 11, 2025, a court ruling confirmed that Mayor was competent to stand trial. The case, initially set for a trial in June, was resolved after Mayor’s guilty plea. The case has shocked the local community, highlighting the tragic loss of a young life due to violence.

This case serves as a painful reminder of the vulnerability of children and the devastating consequences of violent behavior. As Michael Mayor faces his legal consequences, the loss of the little girl remains a tragic event for her family and the community.
