A 47-year-old man from Florida is in custody after allegedly pushing a woman into the Miami River during an argument, which led to her death a few days later. The suspect, William Youmans Jr., is currently facing an attempted second-degree murder charge, which may be upgraded after the victim passed away.
The Incident
On Tuesday morning, Youmans and the victim, later identified as 39-year-old Marie Roseme, were having a heated argument near the SW 1st Street Bridge close to Jose Marti Park in Miami.
According to a witness who saw the incident from across the river, Youmans and Roseme were throwing things at each other. At one point, Roseme sat down near the seawall, and that’s when Youmans allegedly walked up to her and pushed her into the river.
The witness immediately called 911 and kept an eye on Youmans until police arrived. After identifying him, the police took Youmans into custody.
Rescue and Death
Miami police rushed to rescue Roseme from the river, and she was quickly taken to the hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, after being hospitalized, Roseme passed away from her injuries on Thursday. Authorities are now expected to upgrade the charges against Youmans following her death.
Youmans’ Behavior in Custody
After his arrest, Youmans displayed violent and erratic behavior while being questioned by police. According to the arrest affidavit, he screamed, punched walls, and even engaged in inappropriate behavior during the interview.
Due to these actions, the police ended the interview and transferred him to jail, where he is currently being held on a $100,000 bond.
