A Texas man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after being convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The charge stems from a brutal 2024 attack on a pregnant woman, which occurred in Bryan, Texas.
Andrew Gutierrez, 35, locked the victim inside his RV, beat her unconscious, and threatened her life during the terrifying ordeal.
The Violent Attack
In January 2024, Bryan police responded to a 911 call that abruptly disconnected. When they arrived, they found the victim severely beaten, requiring immediate medical attention.
She was 11 weeks pregnant at the time. The victim had suffered significant injuries, including severe bruising and swelling on her face, chest, and stomach.
According to the district attorney’s office, the altercation began after an argument between the victim and Gutierrez. In a cruel twist, he locked the woman inside his RV, saying, “Welcome to Hell House,” before starting to punch, kick, and knee her.
Gutierrez also grabbed a kitchen knife, held it to the victim’s neck, and threatened to kill her. Despite her begging him to stop, he continued the violent attack until the victim lost consciousness.
Police and Evidence
While Gutierrez was outside the RV, the victim managed to call 911 and briefly gave the authorities the location. The police arrived and found evidence of the attack, including broken glass, blood, and the kitchen knife.
Gutierrez had even tried to force the woman to lie about the assault, telling her to say that two women had attacked her. However, the police quickly pieced together what really happened based on the victim’s statements and the physical evidence at the scene.
A History of Violence
This wasn’t Gutierrez’s first brush with the law. He had a previous conviction for “assault family violence continuous” in 2016, for which he served five years in prison. Despite his violent past, the 2024 attack was a significant escalation.
In addition to the 25-year prison sentence, Gutierrez must serve at least half of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
Gutierrez’s actions demonstrate a clear pattern of violent behavior, and the 25-year sentence reflects the seriousness of his crimes. It also serves as a reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.
