Dallas-Fort Worth’s newest Texas high school football venue has arrived.

Arlington ISD’s Glaspie Field, which was funded by a 2019 bond, had its inaugural game on Thursday night. Arlington Seguin beat The Colony 68-30 to remain undefeated.

According to Arlington ISD, the stadium on the Martin High School campus has a capacity of 10,000 and was previously utilized as the Warrior’s outdoor practice field.

Glaspie Field will be Seguin and Martin’s long-term home stadium.

Arlington ISD Athletic Director Eric White stated that the district is “very excited” about the stadium’s debut and that it will develop community while also providing a fan-friendly, intimate environment.

Glaspie Field uses LED lighting, which has the advantages of bringing light “into the stadium and onto the playing surface more efficiently” and having “less spillage from the venue” into neighboring areas, according to Arlington ISD.

According to White, the lights, which can be easily turned on and off, will also add some theatrics to assist engage the supporters.

Although Glaspie is Martin and Seguin’s home stadium, White says any Arlington ISD team can play there. Glaspie Field, built by VLK Architects, is Arlington ISD’s third competition field, following Wilemon Field at Sam Houston High School and Craven Field at Lamar High School.

The district will continue to collaborate with Choctaw Stadium and UTA Maverick Fields.

“We have excellent ties with UTA and Choctaw, but having a place to call home that you know will be there adds to the thrill when you step out onto the field. This is our home. “They get to say that.”

According to White, one of AISD’s next aims is to enhance Wilemon and Cravens fields, which will begin in the spring.

Arlington Seguin (5-0, 3-0) dominated The Colony with rushing touchdowns from Chevy Andrews, Isaac Bly, and Ka’darrius Trotter, leading 24-9 at halftime. The defense contributed to the scoring with a safety, and held The Colony (2-3, 1-2) to one TD.

Despite the Colony recovering an onside kick to begin the third quarter, Seguin maintained momentum and forced a stop. At 4:52 in the third quarter, both offenses found a spark.

Bly started the spree with his second touchdown, a one-yarder. Rylan Kessler of the Colony replied with a 23-yard touchdown reception, but Seguin’s offense pressed on with another scoring scamper from Andrews, this time from 29 yards.

Kendrick McClodden scored 35 yards rushing to keep the Colony’s attack on track. With each second-half score, Seguin had an answer. Andrews rolled out of the pocket to find Johnaven Polk for an 11-yard touchdown reception.

Following a fantastic 16-yard touchdown reception by Vincent Canzano of The Colony, Andrews added his third rushing touchdown, a seven-yarder, thanks to a push from his teammates. Following a fumble recovery by Seguin’s Michael Jackson, Andrews put the game out of reach with a 22-yard scoring pass to Polk.

Andrews completed 11 of 13 throws for 149 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for 90 yards and three touchdowns. Trotter ended with 168 rushing yards and a score on 16 tries.

In the coming weeks, Seguin will face Mansfield Timberview, Colleyville Heritage, and Argyle.
