The Denton Fire Department has received the highest possible rating from the Insurance Services Office, putting it in the top 1% of all fire departments nationwide. The Class 1 Public Protection Classification will go into effect on October 1, 2025, which might lower insurance prices for Denton property owners.

According to a press release from the City of Denton, the upgrade from the previous Class 2 rating, established in 2018, is due to investments outlined in the City’s Strategic Plan, which include enhanced training programs, equipment upgrades, improved infrastructure collaborations, and upgraded dispatch systems.

“Our team has worked tirelessly to elevate our services, ensuring faster response times and better outcomes for our community,” stated the fire chief, Kenneth Hedges. “We’re honored to deliver this level of protection to Denton residents and businesses.”

This achievement adds to the department’s previous successes, which include perfect-score certification from the Commission on certification of Ambulance Services in August 2025 and Commission of Fire Accreditation International recognized agency status in 2023.

In honor of this achievement, the City Council will present an official proclamation to the Denton Fire Department during a 6:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall.
