An Arizona man has been sentenced to life in prison for the horrific murder of his estranged wife, whom he stabbed more than 40 times in front of their teenage son. Javier Lopez, 50, admitted to killing 43-year-old Christina Lopez in April 2024 during a violent outburst that left their family shattered.
A Calculated and Violent Attack
According to the Pinal County Attorney’s Office, Javier Lopez went to Christina’s home on April 11, 2024, with their son. He asked the boy to wait in the car while he went inside to confront his wife about whether she was seeing another man.
When Christina confirmed she was in a new relationship, Lopez lost control and stabbed her repeatedly.
The couple’s teenage son rushed inside after hearing the commotion and asked his father if he had hurt his mother. Tragically, Christina was already dead by the time police arrived, lying in a pool of blood.
Custody Battle Turned Deadly
Court records show the couple’s marriage had been falling apart, with bitter fights over custody of their three children. On the day of the murder, Lopez’s rage turned deadly when he realised he had lost Christina forever.
Christina’s mother, Priscilla Miller, said her daughter’s death has left a hole that can never be filled. “The heartbreak is unbearable,” she told local media. “It’s not supposed to be this way, at all.”

Lopez pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and received a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of release. County Attorney Brad Miller described the killing as a “calculated, premeditated act of murder” that robbed three children of their mother’s love and guidance.
“Domestic violence is a scourge on our communities,” Miller said. “My office will continue to pursue the strongest penalties available under the law for those who commit such heinous crimes.”
