An Ohio man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the brutal killings of his ex-girlfriend and her young son.
Sentencing and Plea Agreement
Desean Brown, 25, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated murder for the deaths of Nyteisha Lattimore, 29, and her 3-year-old son, Nylo, on September 10. As part of a plea agreement, the death penalty was removed, sparing Lattimore’s family from lengthy appeals, according to Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich’s office.
The crimes took place almost five years ago on or around December 5, 2020, when Brown first killed Lattimore by stabbing her 11 times in the neck inside her apartment in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati.
The following morning, Brown killed Nylo by throwing him, still alive, into the Ohio River from the Purple People Bridge.
Details of the Crimes
Brown then attempted to dispose of Lattimore’s body by placing it in a bag purchased on eBay and leaving it on the bridge. However, the bag became stuck on a ledge, and Lattimore’s remains were discovered days later.
Despite extensive search efforts, Nylo’s body was never found, although family members later recovered his stroller from the river.
Before discarding the body, Brown had kept it in the apartment, where there was so much blood it leaked into the unit below. Brown also attempted to clean up the crime scene.
Motive and Background
While no motive was discussed at the hearing, prosecutors noted that Brown had previously blamed Lattimore for a miscarriage and had expressed intentions of killing both her and Nylo in retaliation.
Prosecutor’s Statement
In describing Brown’s actions as “ruthless,” Prosecutor Pillich stated, “This sentence delivers justice for both Nyteisha and Nylo.” Brown’s plea deal was finalized after he was found competent to stand trial, despite attempting to fake symptoms of mental illness.
