A tragic case that shocked Ohio has finally come to a close. Desean Brown, 25, will spend the rest of his life in prison without parole after admitting to killing his ex-girlfriend, 29-year-old Nyteisha Lattimore, and her 3-year-old son, Nylo.
Brutal Murder of Nyteisha Lattimore
On December 5, 2020, prosecutors said Brown stabbed Nyteisha 11 times in the neck inside her Cincinnati apartment. The very next day, he put young Nylo in a stroller and wheeled him to the Purple People Bridge, which spans the Ohio River between Cincinnati and Newport, Kentucky.
Nylo was still alive when Brown threw him into the freezing water. His body was never recovered.
Disposal Attempt and Discovery
Days later, on December 11, Brown returned to the bridge with a body bag he had purchased on eBay. He tossed it over the edge, but it became stuck on a ledge. A security guard later noticed the bag, knocked it down, and immediately realized what was inside.
The guard called 911, telling dispatchers: “Somebody threw a bag on the edge of the bridge… it was heavy. It hit the ground. It’s like a body bag.”
No Clear Motive Discussed in Court
While prosecutors did not offer a motive during sentencing, earlier hearings revealed that Brown may have blamed Nyteisha for a miscarriage. They alleged that he killed both her and Nylo as a form of retaliation.
Violence in the Courtroom
This case has drawn attention for another reason — in 2022, Nylo’s father attacked Brown during a court hearing, unable to contain his grief and anger.
Family’s Pain and Response
Nyteisha’s father, Rodrick Lattimore, delivered an emotional message to Brown after sentencing. He condemned the murders and demanded answers about what exactly happened to his grandson.
“I just want this guy to know that you had no right to murder my daughter and grandson,” he said. “When you go to prison, you’re going to talk, and I’ll be waiting.”
Rodrick also said life in prison was the right punishment, believing the death penalty would have been the “easy way out.” His final words to Brown were chilling: “Go to hell. That’s where you need to go.”
Justice Served but Questions Remain
Prosecutor Connie Pillich called Brown’s actions “ruthless” and said the life sentence ensures justice for both Nyteisha and Nylo. Still, with Nylo’s body never found, the family continues to live with unanswered questions and unimaginable grief.
