Two suspects were taken into custody Tuesday evening after allegedly fleeing from police during a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle in League City. The League City Police Department announced the arrests in a press release on Wednesday.
The Incident
The chase began shortly after 8 p.m. on June 17 when the department’s Flock Safety license plate reader system detected a stolen yellow Chevrolet Camaro traveling eastbound on West League City Parkway near West Walker Street.
Officer Ramirez, a K9 unit officer with the League City Police Department (LCPD), spotted the vehicle heading toward South State Highway 3 and started tracking it until backup units arrived.
Once additional officers were on scene, a felony traffic stop was made at the intersection of Olive Avenue and Hill Avenue. However, the vehicle’s occupants refused to comply with the police commands and fled the scene south on Hill Avenue, heading toward FM 646.
Crash During the Pursuit
As the suspects tried to escape, the Camaro struck the rear quarter panel of an F-350 pickup truck towing a cargo trailer. Fortunately, the driver of the F-350 was unharmed and declined medical treatment. Despite the collision, the suspects continued their escape on foot after exiting the Camaro.
Suspects Apprehended
Ayden Williams, 19, from Houston, and Tyreq Lazare, 18, from Texas City, were the two suspects involved in the chase. Williams was apprehended after jumping a fence, where officers used a taser to subdue him. Lazare fled into a wooded area but was tracked down by K9 Rex, who led officers to Lazare’s location. He was arrested without further incident.
Charges and Bond
Williams has been charged with evading arrest/detention with a vehicle, with previous convictions. His bond has been set at $30,000. Lazare faces a charge of evading arrest/detention on foot, with a bond set at $2,500.
Ongoing Investigation
The case is still under investigation by the League City Police Department as authorities continue to review the details of the pursuit and arrest.
