A young woman from Florida has been convicted of a violent outburst that involved choking her mother and grabbing her brother by the groin, all triggered by a missing PlayStation 4 game. The case shocked many due to how quickly a simple family argument turned into a serious domestic violence incident.
Conviction After Quick Jury Deliberation
Alexandra Dominguez, 21, was convicted last week by a Marion County jury on charges of domestic battery by strangulation and battery. The jury took just 20 minutes to reach a decision, highlighting how clear the evidence appeared to be, according to the Fifth Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office.
What Sparked the Violence
The incident happened on April 24, 2024, in Ocala, Florida. Dominguez had followed her mother and brother from a nearby park to their home on SW 43rd Terrace Road. She was there to pick up a PlayStation 4 that belonged to her.
Her family told her to wait outside while they retrieved the console. But when they handed it over, Dominguez noticed that a game was missing—and that’s when things took a violent turn.
A verbal argument at the front door quickly turned into a physical attack.
Choked Her Mother in the Living Room
According to the arrest affidavit, Dominguez first grabbed her mother by the throat outside the house. Her mother ran inside, but Dominguez chased her, pushed her onto the couch, and choked her again for about a minute.
“Based on the length of time her hands were around the victim’s throat, one could reasonably believe blood flow was restricted,” police noted in their report.
Assaulted Her Brother During the Fight
When Dominguez’s brother tried to step in, she grabbed his groin and pulled the hair on his beard, police said. The violent altercation shocked both victims, and after being forced out of the home, Dominguez continued banging on the door in a rage.
She then drove back to Naples, but law enforcement later tracked her down and arrested her.
Awaiting Sentencing
While Dominguez has now been found guilty, her sentencing date has not yet been scheduled. Given the nature of the charges—especially domestic battery by strangulation, which is a felony in Florida—she could face serious prison time.
This disturbing case serves as a reminder of how quickly anger and frustration can lead to violence—even within families. What began as a disagreement over a video game escalated into a dangerous physical attack.
With a conviction now in place, Alexandra Dominguez will soon face the consequences of her actions in court. The case also highlights the importance of addressing domestic conflicts before they spiral out of control.
