Heavy-duty vehicles are being assembled, and fencing is going erected in preparation for major construction that will begin this month to expand one of Medical City Plano’s patient towers.
According to the statement, the expansion is vital to fulfill the rising North Texas population’s demand for advanced emergency, medical, surgical, and cancer treatment.
The $108 million expansion will increase over 131,700 square feet to allow more patient beds for intensive and advanced care programs. Enhancements include:
60 extra beds for medical and surgical patients. Four-story vertical enlargement. Three rooftop helipads and EMS support area. Shell area for future additional beds.
The construction of three rooftop helipads with EMS support area would improve the hospital’s ability to receive and treat patients swiftly, especially in emergency or disaster situations involving several patients. Medical City Plano now has three ground-level helipads.
“Since opening in 1975, Medical City Plano has been the destination of choice for health care excellence in Collin County and beyond,” stated Ben Coogan, Medical City Plano’s CEO. “This vital and exciting growth will positively expand our system of care, enabling us to treat more patients with complex conditions close to home.”
The hospital tower, which debuted in 2019, serves patients with critical and life-threatening diseases, including those in the burn ICU, trauma ICU, and Sarah Cannon Cancer Hospital oncology sections.
Furthermore, this expansion will provide new jobs during construction and after completion, boosting local employment and economic growth. Medical City Plano is a major employer in Collin County, with over 2,400 employees and 1,800 physicians.
The building, which is expected to be completed in 2026, is part of Medical City Healthcare’s unparalleled expansion, which began with the opening of Medical City Mental Health & Wellness Center Alliance in February.
Over the last five years, Medical City Healthcare has committed more than $1.7 billion in capital improvements, which include building acquisitions and expansions, facility upgrades, and cutting-edge technology.
