Team USA won the Junior Ryder Cup at Glen Cove, New York. Luke Colton, a senior at Frisco Wakeland High School, played a vital role on that 12-man team.

Colton won consecutive Class 5A state golf championships while attending Frisco Wakeland High School, and he is presently rated second on the AJGA Rankings. He has added Junior Ryder Cup Champion to his remarkable record.

The young Ryder Cup teams comprise of 12 young golfers. There are six boys and six girls from both the United States and Europe. The teams feature the best amateur talent under the age of 18, and they participate in a match-play format similar to the professional Ryder Cup.

With the victory, the United States improves their overall Junior Ryder Cup record to 8-4-1, and Captain Whaley sees it as a collective achievement.

Scottie Scheffler (Highland Park) and Jordan Spieth (Dallas) are two other noteworthy North Texas professional golfers who have participated on Junior Ryder Cup teams in the past.

The Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black begins on Friday, September 26, with coverage continuing through Sunday, September 28, on NBC 5.
