Natural gas prices are set to rise somewhat next month. The Murphy City Council agreed Tuesday, Sept. 16, to the change proposed by a coalition of cities, including Murphy, that are served by Atmos Energy Corp., Mid-Tex Division.
Atmos applied for an increase on April 1, and the Atmos Cities Steering Committee authorized a system-wide base rate of $205.6 million effective October 1.
Murphy residents’ monthly base charge will rise 68 cents to $23.68, or nearly 3% above current levels. That will be added to the commodity tax based on use at just under 75 cents per CCF (centrum cubic feet or 100 cubic feet), representing an almost 16-cent increase.
The “Meter Reading” figure on your monthly Atmos bill represents the amount of CCF you utilized.
