Texans will come to Dallas this month as the State Fair of Texas begins.

The fair opens this week at Fair Park and is expected to attract millions of visitors during its 24-day duration. Here’s what you should know.

The State Fair of Texas, founded in 1886, is one of the longest-running fairs. It commemorates Texas history and legacy for 24 days with cattle exhibitions, agricultural displays, shows, entertainment, food, and more.

When and where is the Texas State Fair?

The fair runs from September 26 until October 19. The hours are 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

It is located at Fair Park, 3809 Grand Ave., in South Dallas.

How much is admission?

Prices vary according to day, pass type, and available incentives.

One-day digital flex ticket costs $29.99.

Adult daily entrance ranges from $19 to $29.

Children and seniors: $14–$24.

Digital season pass costs $52.

All-access season pass is $62 (sold at the State Fair of Texas).

Popular fair meals

Deep-fried deli tacos, Dubai chocolate cheesecake, cookie chaos milkshake, and Vietnamese crunch dog are among the most popular delicacies at the Texas State Fair.

What is Big Tex?

This year, the State Fair of Texas will highlight Big Tex, the fair’s 52-foot iconic symbol and ambassador who made his initial appearance in 1952. Big Tex was a popular character in Kerens, a small Texas town southeast of Dallas, before making his Dallas debut.

Parking lots are open at 9:30 a.m. and cost $30. The State Fair of Texas suggests parking at Gate 2, 925 S. Haskell, for the “easiest and most convenient” entry.
