A long-awaited murder trial in Clay County that was scheduled to begin at the end of September 2025 has been postponed.
Cindi Rawlings Baker, 66, of Charlie, was arrested in November 2019 and charged with aggravated assault causing death after police said she fatally stabbed her husband, James Baker, 52, at their Charlie home.
In February 2020, a grand jury heard the case and increased her charge to murder. The Clay County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Texas Rangers and the 97th District Attorney’s Office, conducted the investigation that resulted in the indictment.
Baker’s trial was scheduled to commence on September 29, 2025, at the 97th Judicial District Court in Clay County. According to 97th Judicial District officials, the trial was delayed due to a scheduling dispute in Clay County.
Clay County’s online court records reveal that the trial will now commence on December 9, 2025.
