Collin College has met all of the standards for the certified Toyota and Lexus Technician Training and Education Network program.

In July, the college held a party at the Collin College Technical Campus to commemorate the achievement. Attendees included Toyota representatives, students, alumni, instructors, and staff.

“Achieving full compliance for the Toyota and Lexus T-TEN program is a critical milestone,” said Neil Matkin, Collin College’s district president.

“We consider it a privilege to continue growing our partnership with Toyota Motor North America, Gulf States Toyota, and Toyota and Lexus dealerships, to offer more educational pathways in automotive, and to preserve local talent in Collin County.”

The T-TEN program trains manufacturer-certified technicians in auto dealerships across the United States. Schools must go through a two-year certification procedure under Toyota’s supervision and leadership.

Collin College offers Associate of Applied Science degrees in Automotive Technology – Toyota T-TEN Track, as well as technician training certifications from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, Toyota, and Lexus.

“Toyota’s partnership with Collin College began as a minor partner, and Collin College faculty have demonstrated success in developing relationships with local Toyota and Lexus dealerships, resulting in student employment,” said Kevin Roner, T-TEN department supervisor at Toyota Motor North America.

Roner stated that Collin College has established “a high-value education pathway for automotive technicians in the metroplex.”

Toyota Motor North America, Gulf States Toyota, and Toyota and Lexus dealerships all joined forces in 2020. The college also provides the Toyota repair Repair and Refinishing Elite Training program, which allows students to obtain an Enhanced Skills Certificate and become certified to operate in authorized Toyota and Lexus repair shops.

“The Toyota T-TEN and Collin College Collision Repair and Refinishing Elite Training programs demonstrate the college’s commitment to partnering with manufacturing industries and creating more opportunities for students to excel,” stated Collin College’s executive vice president, Bill King.
