After losing a heartbreaker 3-2 to Frisco Panther Creek on Friday, the Celina volleyball team was entrusted with defending a 2-0 lead against Van Alstyne on Tuesday.
The Lady Panthers avoided the sweep with a tight win in set three, but Celina sealed the deal with a 3-1 away triumph (25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22) to move to 2-1 in 9-4A action.
Celina rebounded thanks to a fruitful night at the net from junior Morgan Sumner, who had 11 kills on a.310 hit % and was one of four Lady Bobcats with at least eight kills in the win. Senior Selah Nickel and sophomore Charlotte Sinclair both tallied nine kills, while sophomore McKynna Stephens contributed eight.
Stephens was solid behind the service line, with five aces and a team-high 23 digs, while Nickel and sophomore Morgan Terry combined for nine blocks. Junior Alex Farrow handed out 26 assists.
