Bexar County, Texas – According to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, multiple persons were held on Tuesday after a male driver was fatally shot in a northeast Bexar County neighborhood.
Deputies were summoned shortly after 3:30 a.m. to the 8200 block of Steep Valley.
According to BCSO Public Information Officer Johnny Garcia, a resident who called 911 went outside and discovered the driver who had slammed into a parked car. According to the BCSO, the homeowner then dragged the driver out of the vehicle in an attempt to save his life.
Deputies stated that the driver’s vehicle was reported stolen on Monday night. Investigators suspect the male was shot a few homes down from where the crash occurred.
Garcia stated that first responders pronounced the individual deceased at 3:39 a.m. due to a gunshot wound to his upper body.
According to the sheriff’s office, the individual attempted to flee a nearby home and reached speeds of at least 70 mph before colliding with the vehicle.
Deputies discovered “what appeared to be signs of a shooting that occurred from the street and a house,” according to the sheriff’s office.
According to BCSO, investigators later discovered a gun in front of the residence, which is thought to have been the source of the gunfire. There were also shattered windows on the second level of the house.
Garcia stated that the sheriff’s office is looking into whether the gunfire came from within the house.
Garcia reported that there were no shell casings in the street or outside the home.
The BCSO reported that at least four people had been held for additional interrogation. However, Garcia stated that the detainees were not “forthcoming” with specifics about the incident.
The sheriff’s office believes one of the inmates, a female, has a relationship with the male driver. Investigators believe the other inmates may have lived in the home where the pistol was discovered.
The male driver and the detainees “had some sort of feud,” Garcia explained. According to the BCSO, investigators believe at least one of the detainees used a cellphone app to track the male’s location.
According to Garcia, deputies have placed the home on “lockdown” while detectives seek a search warrant.
According to the sheriff’s office, the male driver died was in his late teens or early twenties.
While deputies have closed Steep Valley, Garcia says surrounding homeowners may be impacted for several hours.
