A Galveston community is reeling after a shocking act of violence left a mother dead and her teenage daughter in custody. Police say a 16-year-old girl is accused of fatally shooting her 34-year-old mother, Tiamoya Deshondra Moore, inside their home last week.
The Night of the Shooting
On the evening of September 11, neighbors in the 5100 block of Avenue Q reported hearing screams followed by gunfire. When Galveston police officers arrived, they discovered Moore unresponsive with at least five gunshot wounds.
She was rushed to UTMB Hospital in critical condition but later died from her injuries.
Teen Suspect in Custody
Investigators identified Moore’s daughter as the suspected shooter. Witnesses said the teenager fled the home after the gunfire, but she later returned while officers were still processing the scene. She was taken into custody without resistance.
Police recovered a firearm from the house. The teen is now being held at the Jerry J. Esmond Juvenile Justice Center as detectives continue to investigate what led to the fatal confrontation.

Moore, a Galveston native, was known in the community as a hairstylist and nail technician. She became a mother at 18 and was raising five children at the time of her death.
