A Sunday evening trip to the beach ended in tragedy when a 39-year-old Houston man drowned while swimming near the Galveston Seawall. Authorities confirmed the man was pulled from the water but later died despite rescue efforts.
How the Incident Happened
According to Galveston Island Beach Patrol, the drowning occurred around 6:45 p.m. near 13th Street and Seawall Boulevard. Two people who were boogie boarding in chest-deep water spotted the man floating face down.
They quickly brought him to shore and began performing first aid until lifeguards arrived.
Rescue Efforts
Beach Patrol lifeguards and rescue crews took over lifesaving efforts and immediately began CPR. The man was transported to the University of Texas Medical Branch by Galveston EMS. Unfortunately, he did not survive.
