Erika Kirk, the wife of late right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk, has publicly addressed the tragic murder of her husband, who was fatally shot while speaking at Utah Valley University during his nationwide tour.
Erika Kirk’s First Public Statement
On Friday, September 12, Erika, 36, expressed her gratitude to law enforcement at the local, state, and federal levels, as well as Charlie’s close friends and supporters, including Vice President JD Vance and President Donald Trump. She praised their unwavering support during this devastating time.
“Charlie always said that when he was gone, he wanted to be remembered for his courage and for his faith,” Erika said. “Most of all, Charlie loved his children, and he loved me with all of his heart. My husband laid down his life for me, for our nation, for our children.”
Erika also revealed how Charlie’s legacy would live on through his work, saying that The American Comeback Tour would continue in the fall as planned.
Dealing with Loss and Explaining to Their Daughter
In an emotional moment, Erika shared how she had told their 3-year-old daughter about her father’s death. “What do you tell a three-year-old? She’s three,” Erika said. “I said, ‘Baby, daddy loves you so much. Don’t you worry. He’s on a work trip with Jesus, so he can afford your blueberry budget.’”
Charlie Kirk’s Legacy
Reflecting on their relationship, Erika said Charlie had always prioritized family, especially his wife and children. Matt Lamb, a former official at Turning Point USA, also spoke fondly of Charlie, noting, “He loved his wife and loved his kids.
You could just tell about the way he talked about them.” He added that Charlie’s true legacy would be his family, not just his work with Turning Point USA.
Suspected Shooter and Legal Proceedings
The suspected shooter, Tyler Robinson, 22, is facing charges of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, and obstruction of justice. Prosecutors have the option to pursue the death penalty in this case.
Robinson was identified through a relative who reached out to authorities, leading to his arrest. According to Utah Governor Spencer Cox, Robinson had expressed his disdain for Kirk’s viewpoints, describing him as “full of hate.”
Erika Kirk ended her emotional statement by thanking everyone who supported her husband, saying, “God bless you all. And God bless America.”
