A 22-year-old Michigan man is facing serious charges after allegedly shooting the man his ex-girlfriend called for help when she noticed him following her home from the movies. The late-night confrontation ended with gunfire and left a 40-year-old victim hospitalized.
Suspect Identified and Arrested
Authorities identified the suspect as Dominic Michael McBride, who was arrested over the weekend. He is charged with assault with intent to murder, assault with intent to cause great bodily harm, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
Shooting Reported on Reed Street
Police say the shooting happened around 11 p.m. Sunday outside a home on Reed Street in Sumpter Township, about 30 miles southwest of Detroit. Officers arrived to find a 40-year-old man suffering from two gunshot wounds — one to the chest and another grazing his cheek.
The victim, who lived at the residence, was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Confrontation Began at Movie Theater
Investigators say the trouble began earlier that evening at the Emagine Theater in Canton Township. McBride allegedly spotted his ex-girlfriend there with another man. After an encounter, he reportedly followed the pair for nearly 20 miles to the Reed Street home.
The ex-girlfriend called the resident to come outside and help. Police say when the man told McBride to leave, McBride pulled out a handgun from his vehicle and opened fire, striking him twice.
Aftermath and Charges
Following the shooting, McBride reportedly drove a short distance away and waited for officers to arrive. Police arrested him and recovered the firearm believed to have been used in the attack.
McBride was arraigned before Judge Teresa Arlaina Patton, who set his bond at $500,000. He is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on September 24.
The Michigan movie-theater confrontation turned shooting has left one man recovering from gunshot wounds and another facing life-altering charges. What began as an unsettling case of a young man following his ex-girlfriend spiraled into violence, highlighting the dangers of jealousy and escalation.
Authorities acted swiftly to take McBride into custody, but the community remains shaken by the late-night attack.
