A deadly love triangle dispute in Texas has left one man dead and another behind bars after what authorities describe as a brutal shooting.
The Shooting in Bexar County
On Monday night, 29-year-old Enrique Javier Perales was gunned down in front of multiple witnesses at a home on Calle Fincias in Bexar County, according to Sheriff Javier Salazar.
The suspected shooter, 21-year-old Mason Ray Rodriguez, allegedly pulled out a 9mm Glock during an argument with Perales and fired more than a dozen rounds, striking him repeatedly.
Perales was pronounced dead at the scene.
Motive Behind the Killing
Investigators believe the motive was a romantic rivalry. Sheriff Salazar said the dispute may have been fueled by the fact that both men were reportedly involved with the same woman. It remains unclear if she was present during the shooting.
Attempt to Hide the Weapon
After leaving the crime scene, Rodriguez allegedly tried to cover his tracks. Authorities say he buried the firearm along with a high-capacity magazine that could hold up to 30 rounds.
Despite his efforts, deputies quickly tracked him down at a nearby residence. Rodriguez surrendered without incident and reportedly made statements admitting to the killing.
Self-Defense Claim Dismissed
While Rodriguez suggested self-defense during questioning, investigators said the evidence does not support that claim. “We don’t believe that’s an indicator,” Sheriff Salazar told reporters.
Arrest and Charges
Rodriguez was booked into the Bexar County Jail on Tuesday morning on a murder charge. The sheriff added that additional arrests are possible as the investigation continues.
What began as a heated personal dispute over a shared romantic partner escalated into a deadly shooting, ending one man’s life and potentially costing another his freedom for decades. Authorities say the case underscores how quickly jealousy and violence can spiral out of control, leaving families and communities devastated.
