A shocking case has emerged from St. Louis, Missouri, where a man is accused of killing his own roommate during what was supposed to be a simple outing to watch college football. The reason behind the deadly argument has left many stunned – unpaid contributions for drugs and household expenses.
Man Charged in Roommate’s Murder
Police have charged 54-year-old Marvin Byrd with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, unlawful possession of a firearm, and felony resisting arrest. The shooting happened on Saturday, and Byrd was taken into custody the same night.
What Led to the Shooting
According to court documents, Byrd and his roommate were heading to a small gathering to watch a football game when Byrd became upset. He reportedly complained about his roommate not helping with financial responsibilities, including household bills and recreational drug expenses.
The argument escalated quickly. Byrd allegedly pulled out his Sig Sauer P320 handgun and shot his roommate in the street. After the shooting, he placed the weapon on the ground and sat inside his vehicle until officers arrived.
Eyewitness and Evidence
A nearby eyewitness heard the gunshots and told police he saw Byrd holding the firearm while the victim lay on the ground. Authorities confirmed no other weapon was found at the scene.
Surveillance camera footage also helped investigators piece together the incident. Local news footage showed officers collecting shell casings and examining the crime scene late into the night.
Byrd’s Changing Stories
When officers arrived, Byrd did not immediately surrender. Reports say he resisted being handcuffed but was eventually restrained, read his Miranda rights, and taken in for questioning.
