A Texas man, already in jail on assault charges, now faces even more serious allegations after he was accused of attempting to assist a fellow inmate in murdering a witness to his case.
Damen Marcus Henry, 45, who was being held on assault family violence charges at the McLennan County Jail, was allegedly involved in a jailhouse plot to tamper with a witness and evidence, according to police.
The Plot Unfolds
Henry was reportedly passing notes with 63-year-old Bobby Doyle Getts, who is facing a murder charge in the shooting death of Eddie Lee Sanders. The notes, passed through another inmate, were allegedly part of an effort by Getts to have Henry kill a female witness in his case.
The notes contained instructions to ensure the witness did not appear in court, along with a map to her home address.
Alleged Murder Plan
The affidavit, obtained by local news outlets, states that Getts intended to post Henry’s $3,000 bond, allowing him to be released from jail to carry out the plan. One of the notes allegedly told Henry to “use ‘paint thinner’ to burn her and kill her.”
In an interview with authorities, Henry admitted that he knew where the witness lived and described the plan to burn down her house and confront her.
Additional Charges for Henry
As a result of the scheme, Henry was charged with attempting to tamper with a witness and attempting to tamper with evidence. Meanwhile, Getts, who remains jailed on murder charges, has not yet faced charges related to the alleged plot.
Investigation and Legal Consequences
Both men remain in custody at the McLennan County Jail, with Henry now facing serious additional charges in connection with his involvement in the attempted murder plot.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the case, though it remains unclear whether the witness targeted by Getts was the same individual who had allegedly witnessed the murder of Eddie Lee Sanders.
