A Georgia man accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend’s new partner will stay behind bars as he awaits trial, a judge has ruled.
Bond Hearing Denied
On Wednesday, a DeKalb County judge denied bond for Keenan Maxwell Williams, 35, who faces a charge of malice murder in the July 6 killing of Cole Pitter, 36. Prosecutors argued that releasing Williams would endanger the victim’s family, who said they feared for their lives if he got out of jail.
The Deadly Shooting
Authorities say Williams shot Pitter multiple times outside his girlfriend’s Lithonia home. Prosecutors allege that Williams, who shared a child with the woman, had been stalking the property and lurking in the bushes for hours, including on the night of the murder.
Investigators linked Williams to the crime through:
Phone and surveillance records showing his presence near the home
Reports that he had harassed Pitter months earlier
Evidence that he shot at Pitter’s car and even broke into the woman’s home a week before the killing
Williams allegedly fired 10 shots at Pitter, killing him on the doorstep.
Defense Argument
Williams’ attorney has claimed that the shooting was done in self-defense, though prosecutors maintain it was premeditated and part of an ongoing campaign of harassment.
Remembering Cole Pitter
Pitter, originally from Queens, New York, was remembered as a musician who brought “light, laughter, and warmth” to those around him. His family described him as creative, compassionate, and deeply loved.
What’s Next
Williams was arrested on August 5, nearly a month after the killing. Court records currently do not list a future hearing date. He remains in custody at the DeKalb County Jail.
The bond denial underscores the seriousness of the charges against Keenan Maxwell Williams, who is accused of stalking and ultimately murdering his ex’s new boyfriend. As the case heads toward trial, Pitter’s family continues to grieve a life remembered for kindness, music, and light.
