The Friendswood Police Department is reminding parents and young adults that hosting parties with alcohol provided to minors is illegal in Texas and comes with serious legal consequences.
Under Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code §106.06, it is a criminal offense to make alcohol available to anyone under the age of 21. Violators could face a Class A Misdemeanor, which carries penalties of up to 1 year in jail and a $4,000 fine.
In addition to criminal charges, adults who supply alcohol to minors may also face civil liability if the intoxicated minor causes injury or death to themselves or others.
If law enforcement responds to an underage drinking party, the host, property owner, or responsible adult may be arrested and charged.
The Friendswood Police Department urges the community to help keep the area safe. If you see or suspect an underage drinking party, please report it immediately by calling 281-996-3300.
