The year 2025 has been filled with ups and downs, and with it, plenty of social media chatter. One rumor that recently gained traction suggested Americans would soon receive new stimulus checks.
The IRS has now officially denied these claims, calling them misinformation. While many hoped for a $1,390 payment in September, taxpayers should stop counting on it and look elsewhere for financial support.
Why Stimulus Checks Matter
Stimulus checks have played a key role in the past. They help boost consumer spending, which strengthens the broader economy. Programs like the 2021 American Rescue Plan offered direct payments that helped millions of families manage during tough times.
Today, even though the U.S. economy is recovering faster than many others, financial strain remains. Reports show that 75% of middle-income households have cut back on non-essential spending, a clear sign that many families are still struggling to keep up with rising costs.
IRS Clears the Air on Rumors
The false reports claimed a fourth stimulus check of $1,390 was scheduled for September 2025. But according to the IRS, there is no law or authorization from Congress supporting such payments.
The only legitimate deposits currently going out are tax rebates from 2024 returns. If you filed your taxes before the April 15 deadline, you may see your rebate soon. If not, you should check the IRS portal or contact the agency directly to resolve any missing payments.
The One Proposal Still in Play
While no new stimulus is approved, there is one bill under consideration: the American Worker Rebate Act of 2025.
Introduced by Senator Josh Hawley (R-Missouri).
Backed by President Donald Trump as a tariff rebate plan.
Would use tariff revenue to send $600 per adult and child.
A family of four could receive up to $2,400.
This bill has only been introduced and would need to pass Congress before becoming law. That means payments, if approved, likely wouldn’t happen until late 2025 or 2026.
State-Level Payments Still Happening
Even though no federal stimulus is coming, some states are continuing to send out relief checks. For example, New York Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced the new BABY Benefit, designed to support families with young children.
Despite viral social media claims, there will be no IRS stimulus checks in September 2025. The only real payments currently being distributed are state-level relief programs and federal tax rebates from 2024 returns.
While the American Worker Rebate Act could provide payments in the future, it remains uncertain. For now, Americans should stay cautious about online rumors and focus on confirmed relief programs.
