An Ohio man has pleaded guilty to the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Matyka Brown, after he barged into her home in Dayton, Ohio, and shot her in front of her two young daughters. Tony Jackson, 32, originally faced 11 felony charges connected to the fatal shooting in February but reached a plea deal, admitting to aggravated murder.

The Tragic Shooting Incident

The deadly incident occurred on February 10 when Matyka Brown, 34, was at home with her new boyfriend and two daughters, ages 9 and 14. Jackson first appeared at the house, left, and then returned to break in, threatening Brown and her daughters with a firearm.

Jackson fired a single shot at Brown, and as her daughters fled, he delivered the fatal shot that killed her while the girls ran to neighbors for help. The neighbors called 911, and Dayton police responded to the scene, finding Brown’s body in her bedroom.

History of Domestic Violence

According to Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck, Jackson and Brown had a history of domestic violence. Jackson had been arrested in October 2024 for strangling Brown, and before that, he had served a sentence for aggravated robbery.

Just four months after his prison release, Jackson was once again free, and shortly after, he was involved in a violent altercation with Brown.

Jackson had been released from prison just two weeks before the murder, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking. Jackson’s prior record also included a violent October incident, which led to his return to prison.

Charges and Plea Deal

Jackson had faced multiple charges, including:

Aggravated murder

Murder

Aggravated burglary

Felonious assault

Tampering with evidence

Possessing weapons with a prior conviction of violence

However, Jackson pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, and all other charges were dropped as part of the plea deal.

Sentencing

Jackson is set to be sentenced on September 16. The plea brings some closure to the tragic case, but it does little to heal the pain of the children who witnessed their mother’s death in such a horrific manner.
