Maine will enjoy a stretch of sunshine and warmth midweek, but forecasters warn that changes are on the way. The National Weather Service in Caribou says pleasant conditions will dominate Wednesday and Thursday before showers and a stronger storm system move in by the weekend.

Warm and Sunny Midweek

Wednesday will bring mostly sunny skies with inland highs in the upper 70s. However, scattered afternoon thunderstorms could pop up across the Western Highlands and Western Aroostook County. By nightfall, skies turn mostly clear with cooler lows near 50.

Thursday continues the run of pleasant weather, featuring plenty of sunshine and highs again in the upper 70s. Outdoor plans should go smoothly across most of the state.

Friday: Showers Return

An occluded front will push into Maine on Friday, bringing showers mainly to the northern part of the state. Rain is expected to linger into Friday night, with highs ranging from the low 70s north to the mid-70s south.

Weekend Storm Potential

A stronger wave of low pressure is expected Saturday, which could deliver a more widespread rain event. Forecasters are still tracking the system’s path, but interior southern Maine could briefly reach highs near 80 before the front passes. Northern Maine will stay cooler, closer to 70.

Cooler, Drier Start to Next Week

After the weekend system moves out, Sunday and Monday look cooler and drier statewide. Highs will run from the 60s in the north to around 70 in the south, offering a more comfortable early September feel.

Stay Weather-Aware

Residents planning outdoor gatherings, sports, or festivals should monitor updates closely heading into Saturday. The exact track of the storm system will determine where the heaviest rain falls and how long it lasts.
