Central and East Texas are under a Flood Watch through Sunday evening as heavy rainfall increases the risk of flash flooding and dangerous driving conditions.

Heavy Rainfall Expected Across the Region

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth reports that persistent rainfall will affect the region from Sunday morning until late evening, with storms continuing into Labor Day. Rainfall totals in some areas may reach 3 to 5 inches, particularly in low-lying and poor drainage areas.

Storm Hazards: Flooding, Wind, Lightning, and Small Hail

In addition to flooding, expect gusty winds, frequent lightning, and the potential for small hail with these storms. Areas such as Waco, Killeen, Centerville, and Palestine are under the watch.

Roadway Flooding and Travel Hazards

Flooding is most likely in rural areas with poor drainage. Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded areas or ignoring barricades. Holiday travelers should prepare for slowdowns, particularly along I-35 between Austin and Dallas, where reduced visibility and ponding on the road may occur.

Flood Watch Extended Through Sunday Evening

The Flood Watch is in effect until 7 p.m. Sunday, but additional advisories could be issued if storms continue into Labor Day.
